Class Rhodophyceae - Red Algae
Algae in which the chlorophyll is often masked by the red pigment phycoerythrin (a red protein from the light-harvesting phycobiliprotein family). The red algae occur in temperate and warm waters at almost all sites along the shore and at various depths in the sea.

Gelidium latifolium (Greville) Bornet & Thuret Frond
Main branches are flat, ribbon like and bears fine thin branchlets. It is about 8 cm long. It can be found on rocks and in shallow water in Atlantic north to English Channel, south-west Britian and Ireland.

Ahnfeltia plicata (Hudson) Fries Frond It is 7 to 15 cm long, forming stiff and springy tufts about 10cm wide with a texture reminscent of fine wire. It can be found in pools attached to rocks on the middle and lower shore in the Atlantic, English Channel and North Sea.
